En Plein Air - One Artists' View (E-Book)
This book is a result of an art exhibition focused on how I selected and then portrayed a subject while painting in the midst of the scene, en plein air.
Painting directly from life gives me freedom to express how the scene moves me. Because the view is not restricted to what is able to be captured with a photograph, elements can be freely borrowed from surrounding areas, shapes altered to convey their impact, and the light, temperature and wind captured with colour and brushwork. The short time window, moving sun and other distractions prevent overworking and force immediacy with the paint.
With the use of accompanying photographs of each painting spot and descriptive detail concerning what attracted me to the scene, I hope you will be able to understand and follow the artistic choices I have made while painting each subject.
